The Resurgence of Tijuana: C-3’s September 24 Breakfast Dialogue
Introduces San Diegans to Tijuana’s Emerging Urban Development Projects
(SAN DIEGO) Sept. 14, 2015 – The future of the Tijuana-San Diego cross-border region has been on the radar screens of citizens and public officials for decades. Following the post-9/11 decade of inactivity, during the last five years, the pendulum has swung back and San Diego and Tijuana are ready to plan and build an infrastructure that embraces our cross-border future.
On Thursday, September 24 from 7 to 9 a.m. at Balboa Park’s The Prado, Citizen’s Coordinate for Century 3’s (C-3) Breakfast Dialogue will present “Our Border/Bi-National Region: The Resurgence of Tijuana.”
As a result of the impacts of post 9/11 Homeland Security, concerns of drug smuggling and a global recession, cross-border planning projects had low priority, but today urban development projects and activities that define Tijuana’s economic and cultural resurgence over the past half-decade are beginning to emerge, creating exciting and innovative experiences and opportunities for both sides of the border.
Moderated by Larry Herzog, Ph.D., SDSU professor of city planning, guest speakers for the event will include:
- · Emma Cruz and Miguel Marshall co-founders of HUB STN, a bi-national technology and collaborative work space in downtown Tijuana.
- · Illya Haro, an independent art curator in Tijuana, will discuss the emerging downtown Tijuana art scene.
- · Rene Peralta, director of the Master of Science in architecture program at Woodbury University in San Diego, will present an ecological revitalization plan for the river zone of Tijuana.
- · Mario C. López, president/CEO of The Border Group LLC., will highlight areas of Tijuana’s revitalization and the importance of cross-border cooperation.
As a member-supported nonprofit organization, C-3 plays a crucial role of uniting citizens to jointly craft solutions to the challenges faced in our city and region.
